Delta Air Lines will open its second Delta One lounge at Los Angeles on Thursday October 10, complementing the New York JFK Delta One lounge and bookending the east and west coasts with dedicated lounges for business class travellers.

The airline confirmed the October 10 opening date to Executive Traveller overnight, although first reports will arrive following a media preview held on October 7.

The Delta One LAX lounge will be connected to and co-located with the LAX Sky Club at Terminal 3, with access via the Delta One check-in suite – where passengers are served a glass of Champagne while their bags are checked in, before making their way through a discreet TSA checkpoint.

At almost one-quarter the size of its New York sibling, the Delta One LAX lounge should have capacity for up to 140 passengers.

How busy the lounge gets remains to be seen: crowding has certainly been an issue at JFK, despite the ‘business class only’ access policy (with an exception made for high-flying members of the invitation-only Delta 360 tier).

However, given that Delta’s partner airlines such as Air France, Korean Air and LATAM all fly out of Los Angeles’ Tom Bradley International Terminal, the Delta One lounge could be largely a Delta-only affair, except for savvy first and business class passengers on those partner airlines taking advantage of the airside walkway connecting TBIT and T3.

The Delta One LAX lounge will embrace its elevated position with an all-weather outdoor deck offering postcard views over the Hollywood Hills, much the same as the LAX Sky Club already does.

Like its Sky Club sibling, the new Delta One lounge at LAX will boast an open-air deck.

There’ll also be an à la carte restaurant, tended bar, shower suites stocked with Grown Alchemist amenities, plus a wellness area with full-body massage chairs and nap chairs.

Delta says other aspects of the lounge, along with its overall design, “will include elements inspired by and unique to” Los Angeles, California and indeed the US West Coast.

The SkyTeam member will close the year with the ribbon-cutting for a third Delta One lounge at Boston, which will seat 120 customers and be connected to the new 400-seat Sky Club; “premium lounge guests will have access to both spaces.”
