Sixt Australia tempts drivers with BMW’s electric iX3
The all-electric SUVs spearhead a fleet boost of 500 new Beemers by the NRMA-backed car rental challenger.
If you’re keen to sample BMW’s muscular all-electric iX3 sportster, Sixt Australia’s got you covered,
The car hire colossus is adding 100 iX3s to its nationwide fleet over the coming months, with free charging at any of the 100+ Chargefox stations around Australia (Chargefox, like Sixt Australia, is owned by the NRMA).
As BMW’s first electric SUV, the iX3 boasts a range of up to 460km, with up to 100km available with a 10-minute top-up at high-power rapid charge stations.
“One of the greatest advantages of hiring an electric vehicle through Sixt is that there is no charge to recharge,” says Sixt Australia CEO Matt Beattie.
“Just return your vehicle and we’ll recharge it for you, so you can save time and money.”
Sixt Australia has yet to advise rental costs for the iX3s.
The iX3s will be followed by another 400 BMWs – including the 330i, 220i Gran Coupé and X3 xDrive30i – being delivered to Sixt car rental depots around Australia over the next 12 months.
Beattie says Sixt Australia is “obsessed with growing our electric vehicle fleet and providing our customers with options to travel in comfort and style. So whether travelling for business or a weekend away we are pleased to be partnering with BMW to provide both for our customers.”
Sixt Australia is now an ‘earn and burn’ partner in Virgin Australia’s Velocity Frequent Flyer program and also offers an aggressive status match into its Advantage Circle loyalty program to members of Avis, Hertz and Europcar schemes.
Avis President’s Club, Europcar Privilege Elite, Executive or VIP, Enterprise Plus Platinum, Hertz Five Star or Hertz President members will be granted Sixt Advantage Circle Platinum status,
The next step down the loyalty ladder – including Avis Preferred, Europcar Privilege Club, Enterprise Plus Gold and Hertz Gold Rewards – are matched to Sixt Advantage Circle Gold.
As Velocity Gold and Platinum members automatically receive Hertz Five Star or Europcar Privilege Executive status, this can in turn become your fast-track to Sixt Australia Gold or Platinum status.

I've tried using Sixt but they don't allow multi city bookings, for example pick up from Sunshine Coast / Brisbane and drop off at Gold Coast on the same day. Previously this was allowed at Thrifty, just booked one trip that is Brisbane to Brisbane return.

I have rented with them a couple of times. Not bad. the service was a bit slow as I am not a upper status. (reading above that can change). However I looked at them because Europcar and the others are price gauging everyone since COIVD. Prices have sky rocketed and they are making killing and trying to claw back profits after selling their fleets. I would never of looked to change but for example Tasmania during winter for 3 days used to be about $200 now it's over $1000. Loyalty only goes so far. I shop around now.
