Oneworld launches $10,500 'Around The World' business class trip

Flying around the world in business class always sounds like a good idea, and a new round-the-world (RTW) fare from the Oneworld airline alliance delivers this country-hopping trip for just $10,500 plus any applicable taxes and government charges.

The catch? It's restricted to the southern hemisphere – which isn't such a bad thing it you're over the UK, Europe, the USA and Asia, and eager to explore a very different slice of the globe.

It covers flights on a South West Pacific–Africa-South America-South West Pacific routing, flying in a westwards or eastwards direction, with flights allowed within each continent.

From Australia, the special Southern Hemisphere Explorer fare takes the following routes under its wing:

  • Qantas for Sydney-Johannesburg or Sydney-Santiago (or vice versa)
  • LATAM for Sydney-Santiago (with a stopover in Auckland if you fancy) or, from October 2017, Melbourne-Santiago
  • LATAM from Santiago to São Paolo, and then São Paolo to Johannesburg

Clever thinking from the folks there at OneWorld.
Now, if they could offer the same thing at a similar price for the Northern hemisphere....

That was what I was thinking when I first saw this - isn't this just a Oneworld Explorer Fare but you only choose the three Southern continents?
Isn't the only thing that has changed was before you couldn't fly from South America to Africa but now you can because TAM is onboard?

Yes. Previously, there was no 3 continent fare for travel ex Australia as the AU/DXB flights is classed as travel via Asia and you had to travel via Europe/ME to cross the Atlantic from Africa.

Actually, this fare is also classified as the three continent fare.

Hi KL, final pricing would depend on your particular travel dates, chosen itinerary and the country you first depart from.

Oneworld tells us that business class fares on these itineraries start at AUD $10,499 when beginning the journey in Australia or South West Pacific, ZAR 80,460 when commencing in South Africa, US$8,100 when commencing in Brazil and US$8,600 when beginning from elsewhere in South America, plus any applicable taxes and government charges.

The new xONE3 via southern hemisphere is only possible because JJ started the new São Paolo to Johannesburg route.
MH used to have a similar route, but dropped it (along with the KUL-South Africa sector) just before they joined oneworld.

If only AA would start a US-Africa route, then a southern xONE3 would be possible via north america.
