With the right credit card in your wallet, you won't need a business class ticket or a Gold frequent flyer card to get inside Qantas' domestic and international airport lounges – you can instead use one of the lounge passes your card provides, which are super easy to get your hands on.

In some cases, the credit card you have can also get you a discount on annual Qantas Club membership for year-round access, but whatever your travel habits, here are all the Australian credit cards which provide access to Qantas airport lounges.

ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Visa

At the very top of the pile, the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Visa gets you started with two single-use Qantas lounge passes and also discounts on Qantas Club membership for year-round access, a perk worth up to $497 on its own.

That's boosted by the promist of 75,000 bonus Qantas Points + $200 back on your card after your first eligible purchase in the first three months, essentially reducing the 'cost' of the card's annual fee from $425 to $225 in the first year, and you can also earn up to one Qantas Point per $1 spent on everyday purchases (up to $7,500 per month, halved thereafter).

Using the card to spend directly with Qantas, such as to book Qantas flights or purchase that discounted Qantas Club membership, provides an extra Qantas Point per $1 spent – giving you up to two Qantas Points per $1 spent on these charges, depending on how much you've charged to the card in the same month.

Westpac Altitude Black World Mastercard

Westpac’s comparable Altitude Black credit card also promises two free Qantas Club lounge visits each year against a $300 annual fee for its broader package of perks and points ($250 + a $50 Qantas Rewards fee): and includes an offer of 80,000 bonus Qantas Points for new customers who apply before October 23 2018 and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases within the first 90 days.

As with the Qantas lounge passes available via ANZ (and all these other cards), you can use them to stop by domestic Qantas Clubs and Qantas Regional Lounges in Australia, and at Qantas international business class lounges in Australia and overseas, except in Los Angeles.

Just note: you'll only be eligible for these lounge passes from Westpac if you choose Altitude Qantas as your loyalty option to earn Qantas Points (as opposed to Altitude Rewards from which points can be converted to Velocity and the like). You'll also need to contact Westpac to request your passes and then make a transaction directly with Qantas to trigger the invitations.

Qantas American Express Ultimate Card

Another piece of Black-level plastic in this pile is the Qantas American Express Ultimate Card, which again includes two complimentary Qantas lounge passes every year – plus, two yearly visits to the American Express lounges at Sydney and Melbourne airports when flying with any airline on presentation of your card.

As for the Qantas passes, they'll be electronically loaded onto your Qantas Frequent Flyer account within 1-2 weeks of using your card to book a Qantas flight, and you can then 'link' those passes to your reservation to enjoy lounge access, or transfer them to a friend or family member for their enjoyment.

There's a $450 annual fee to pay for this card, but that's offset by the inclusion of a $450 Qantas Travel Credit – a voucher you can spend on Qantas flights via the AMEX website – and you'll be rewarded on your everyday spend with a solid earn rate of 1.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent and a bonus 55,000 Qantas Points for eligible new cardholders.

AMEX's Gold-grade version of the same card, the Qantas American Express Premium Card, also provides two Qantas lounge passes against a $249 annual fee, but without a Travel Credit to negate this charge.

St. George, Bank of Melbourne, BankSA Amplify Signature

Continuing the theme of two yearly Qantas lounge visits are the St. George Amplify Signature Visa, Bank of Melbourne Amplify Signature Visa and BankSA Amplify Signature Visa cards: available when you select the ‘Amplify Qantas’ rewards option (instead of Amplify Rewards) and pay an annual fee of $279.

As with the Westpac Altitude Black card above, you'll need to request these invitations from your issuing bank, and then use your Amplify Signature card to make a purchase, and they'll be on their way soon after.

Whichever bank you choose, you'll be able to earn up to 0.825 Qantas Points per $1 spent – awarded as 0.75/$1 plus a 10% 'birthday bonus' on that amount each year – with 90,000 bonus Qantas Points also on the table for customers who apply before September 26 2018 and spend at least $4,000 on eligible purchases within the first 90 days.

Qantas Premier Platinum Mastercard

Qantas' own Premier Platinum Mastercard again provides two complimentary Qantas Club airport lounge visits each year which are electronically attached to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account – and as with the Qantas AMEX credit cards, these can be applied to one of your own bookings or shared with friends and family.

You'll pay an annual fee of $149 in the first year and $299 per year thereafter, with 75,000 bonus Qantas Points on offer to cardholders who apply, are approved and spend at least $3,000 within 90 days of card approval.

Great info Chris. Any idea what sort of discount is offered on QC annual membership fee? Mine is up for renewal and I have the ANZ QF black card. Not sure if I am going to renew QC as rarely fly QF.

Just looking for a reply please. Is the discount on Qantas club or is it just the free joining fee for the frequent flyer program?

If you're an existing ANZ cardholder and Qantas Club member, you can call Qantas Club and ask what your discounted renewal price would be, before your current membership lapses. As much of the ANZ discount goes towards negating the initial joining fee, I believe the ongoing savings are circa $100 per year, but calling Qantas will give you a more definitive answer for your personal account.

This sounds not too dissimilar to Air NZ's offering with NZ credit cards. Always intrigued when one airline follows another airlines offerings. I'm sure NZ has copied a trick or 2 from QF also.

Just got the ANZ FF Black Visa card as a "plan B" when Amex is not accepted (which is often these days). As you say, it is $1:1 pt until the cap of $7,500 per month, then $2:1. My last Visa card was from Qudos (formerly Qantas credit union) but no sooner than I had obtained it, they capped at $2,500. Seems every time I change cards, the cap "guillotine" drops.
