American Airlines is bringing its flagship Boeing 777-300ER jet to Sydney Airport on Friday November 13, and ten Australian Business Traveller readers will enjoy an exclusive tour of the jet.
A senior American Airlines executive will showcase the spacious first class suites...

... the cool walk-up bar...
... as well as the rest of the eye-catching jet, which begins daily flights between Sydney and Los Angeles from December 19 as part of the Qantas/American Airlines alliance.
To enter this exclusive reader contest you'll need to be over 18 years of age, based in Sydney and be at Sydney Airport on the morning of Friday November 13 (through to around noon). Please do not enter if that's not the case.

I'm sure they won't bother to check, or care, if you decide to fly to Sydney especially.
Not my cup of tea to fly on a plane to Sydney to see the inside of another plane, but hey.

They're making sure you are SYD based because AA will only fly form SYD, targeting Business travellers/leisure that will be most likely to fly on AA

That's silly reasoning. There is nothing stopping someone who wants to fly on AA to LAX from connecting through SYD.

Most likely to fly on AA and SYD based clearly means you can also be based in Adelaide, Perth, Darwin, and Canberra...or even Brisbane

The core profitable traffic on this service to and from the US will orginate or end in Sydney (which doesnt mean traffic from other cities does not count), so the focus will be on that market
Ultimately its a plane - its a good hard product and a big step up from what AA have offered in the past. It has been flying between the US and London/Brazil for sometime now - so its not that new, and the product is not that disimilar to what CX QR US and other airlines have been offering for sometime.
It has a good quality J class product with direct aisle access, and wow a semi bar not exactly a new concept, a high density Y class product with 10 across seating, and a first class that has not seen a lot of change.
I do not believe really loyal QF transpacific frequent flyers are going to be easily swayed from the A380, good food and beverage and generally good onboard service that QF offer, and AA are not consistent in offering

I love AA but if I'm going to be in Y, I'll stick with Qantas. Thank you very much. AA has a fantastic business product but the prices across the pacific from a point to point perspective is rediculous. Can it take business class pax away from Qantas? It remains to be seen.
One option would be to aggressively price it's fares on this route but with the codeshare with QF their hands are tied.
I've tried multiple permutations and it seems very much harder to find a weak link across the pacific (from a pricing perspective) unlike Europe and the Far East, where there are endless options. The pacific market is tight!

Very nice looking aircraft. Great to look at but still prefer the ugly duckling A380 under QF with the extra space and quietness supporetd by a much better degree of service
