Virgin Australia offers double status credits for frequent flyers
Want to fast-track your way to Velocity Gold or Platinum status with Virgin Australia?
The airline is now offering double status credits on all domestic and international flights with Virgin Australia and its international partners of Etihad Airways, Air New Zealand, Delta Air Lines, Virgin America, Virgin Atlantic and Malaysia Airlines.
The same deal has been running for a select group of targeted Velocity members but Virgin Australia has since opened the promotion to all its Velocity frequent flyers.
(While the Terms and Conditions for the deal state "This offer is only available to those selected by Virgin Australia", a spokeswoman for the airline confirmed with Australian Business Traveller that the offer "is currently available to all members".
But it's a tight timeline: eligible bookings must be made before 13 November 2011 for travel before 31 January 2012.
The offer comes as Virgin seeks to hang onto customers it gained during Qantas' strike-afflicted woes, which peaked with an unprecedented 48-hour shutdown of Qantas.
The chance to score twice the usual number of credits will appeal to many Qantas frequent flyers who took advantage of Virgin's canny status match offer in September, as the extra credits will help them quickly boost their status credit balance with an eye to retaining their Velocity status when their renewal period rolls around.

Velocity have also just started to allow "Family Pooling" of Status points and Miles to one account. Great if you're taking the kids, you can suck up their status points.

Great strategy! We've just been updating our Velocity piece on family pooling as that deal's now up.

It's great. Got double points on the flight and family pooled status points.
Worked well as I was platinum and now reached the 2000 points by pooling so we both have Platinum now instead of one Plat and one Gold. Very very clever move by Velocity / VA. I'm loving the family friendly aspect.

A perfect example of QF vs DJ! (When will they be called VA by the way?). Qantas is offering 100% extra frequent flyer points for Platinum, 50% if your Gols and 25% Silver. Virgin is doing double STATUS credits, much more useful, and that's for every level of Velocity membership! Win!
