I use them all the time and no issues. However, sources from friends who work inside the industry say if you have a "tight" connection between cities, ie ADL-MEL-PER or similar, it's better to go get an actual tag at the check-in counter. The only time my bag was misplaced was when i had a tight connection on Q Tags. Never have had a problem with point to point destination.
They are ok for direct flights. I have used them for transfer flights on 3 occasions, and on 2 occasions (MEL-CNS-TSV and MEL-SYD-CFS) my luggage was lost, include one overnight. So I insist on paper tags for transfer flights now.
I was given two Q tags when qantas rolled them out. Both have been torn-off my bags when they first came out. Pretty hard to do since they're quite robust.
I suspect this occurred due to disgruntled Qantas baggage handlers abusing baggage. I expect it was minor IR sabotage due to the very poor relationship between Joyce and Co and his workforce. The tags show your QFF status (mine were Platinum coded) so I expect the tags were deliberatly targeted to get back at Qantas. In a nutshell, I've never used them, and never paid for any further ones. Stick with paper tags and low key luggage is my suggestion. As an aside, I've also noticed that in about 50% of delivery to carousels, it makes no difference whether you have "first", "business" or "priority tickets put on your bags - they still often come off the plane last! not a great service from QF!

Has anyone used Q Tag and had problems? I'm going to Perth tomorrow and as yet haven't used Q Tags.

You just said you used them and they "were torn-off my bags", then you say "I've never used them"...
Which is it?

I've used my Q tags for 4 flights to date and no problems.
I did wonder before my first flight what would happen if they fell off; as it happens they attach paper tags each and every time anyway.
