I’m keen to see if anyone has a workaround for a frustrating experience on the Qantas website when booking Classic Rewards.
I’ve found that using multi-city I can find flights to London that I want and using point to point search I can find a return flight that I want, but that same return flight doesn’t appear in the multi city search engine. Does anyone know a way to get that return flight included?
I’ve called Qantas and they have proven unable to help (seems like they use the same interface as us!!).
Been having the exact same problem, only with USA return to AUS. Plenty of rewards seats available across Europe & to/from EUR to USA, but little in way of inbound to AUS. Have been able to make selections using multi-city outbound via Asia, across Europe & into USA, but the last leg back from USA causes an error, even though it shows as available if doing a point to point search. I was going to call Qantas about it to process the booking, but now you have created doubts in my mind whether I will get anywhere with them. That last leg can be booked individually out of USA, but it is then a single flight with USD applicable. The whole QF rewards seat process is very frustrating & cumbersome!
Sad I’m not the only one here dnoble (ie wish you’d had more luck than me)! I spent an hour on the phone with Qantas this morning and went around in circles, but hopefully you fare better.
The fact that the search engine gives error messages rather than presenting alternatives is irritating- especially when you type in that you are flexible on all dates.
Haha re the USD aspect too. The return flight I could see on point to point had AUD$432 in taxes etc if booked on the Aussie site, but GBP448 if booked as a one way flight from LHR.
As an update, I rang QFF number & surprisingly got straight through; person on other end said they probably can't do anything either i.e. can only select up to 6 flights (could not give a reason/any justifiable answers), then shortly after said he could do the 8 flights I wanted. Started to proceed giving each flight I wanted, to then get half way through & be told one of the flights could not be booked with rewards points (again couldn't explain why it was showing on their booking site & I was able to select it for Classic Rewards). Meant me going back & starting again & decided it was just easier for me to make the bookings myself. Yes, that meant 2 separate bookings (1 outbound & 1 inbound), but it ended up being a good selection, all in J except for 1 flight (short haul so no biggie). Still such a major hassle though. And yes dm12/Joe - spot on!!
My update is that I found flights to LHR on JAL and BA (business), albeit pretty indirect, and then back as far as HK on a direct Ba flight) in economy. Booked them and now will likely pay cash for the last leg unless new rears seats open up. This was after calling the support desk and after them looking around for a hour they hung up on me. Took it and ran!

The qantas award search used to be one of THE best in the game, easy to use, lots of availability. Since covid, Qantas search had just been awful.
And if an option isn't there, you have to restart the whole process and click through all the same settings and dates. So annoying
