It has just been announced that Akbar Al Baker is leaving the CEO position (and the airline) effective 05 November, 2023. No comment from AAB included in the statement from Qatar Airways, which makes this even more interesting.
AAB has certainly been a controversial leader but there is absolutely no doubt that his passion for his airline and his attention to detail has propelled QR into the top echelon of quality top-level carriers.
The lack of reason (ie. health, retirement, management restructuring etc) in the management statement is curious in the extreme. His replacement as CEO has also been announced. And, to say the least, the circumstances are already reverberating and has become the subject of a lot of rumour and speculation. Popcorn, anyone?
