I have a friend who is an unvaccinated airline Pilot in the USA and flying for a major carrier. He refused the vaxx in 2021 and got fired; with a subsequent court case deeming the dismissal illegal and forcing the airline to reinstate him. He is one of only a tiny percentage of Pilots flying today that is at zero risk of vaccine-induced Pilot incapacitation. So, what's all our thoughts about the risk of a major airline losing an aircraft due to the sudden death of a pilot at the controls?
I am very sympathetic to people that refused vaccination, but not sure what your point is.
Are you suggesting that the vaccinated are at higher risk of sudden incapacitation? Or that the unvaccinated are?
I’ve read pretty widely about both COVID and the vaccinations and am familiar on some level with the negative impacts of both. Not sure I’ve seen anything on sudden incapacitation, particularly in the age cohorts most likely to be pilots.
Even if there is some level of risk, it is likely to be much lower levels that all sorts of other risks of pilot incapacitation- heart attack, stroke, food poisoning, etc, etc
I like to always keep an open mind, but if you can’t show us some evidence, not sure this topic has much value
And I’d recommend we all steer clear of a wider debate and/or name calling about COVID, its origins, vaccinations, etc, etc
Every major airline will have reserve pilots on board all their flights (Second/Third Officers) in the event that the Captain/First Officer becomes incapacitated for any reason. Provided that the aircraft controls and systems are still functioning, you're very nearly assured that the pilots onboard will still be able to safely operate the aircraft.

Great to see someone talking about this very concerning trend. Excess and sudden death. But the sheeple in here will comment like, it ain't the 1st of April yet and happily be x10 vaccinated and think they are the normal ones 😄😄😄😄

Said pilot may be at zero risk of vaccine-induced incapacity, and at a higher risk of covid-induced incapacity.

I don’t believe this needs to be debated on this particular site. Just going to stir up the crazies again!

I’ve got both a vaccination and a 5G phone. If you guys don’t see me posting on the ET web site next week then you know what’s happened.
