Interesting movements at IASC. See the following, direct quote from the IASC determination website:
"On 21 February 2024, the Commission issued Renewal Determination [2024] IASC 102, allocating to Virgin Australia International Airlines Pty Limited one daily frequency of passenger capacity per week in each direction on the Japan route, to service Tokyo-Haneda. The capacity may be used by Virgin Australia International Airlines Pty Limited to provide code share services with All Nippon Airways, Air Canada and Qatar Airways, subject to certain conditions. The determination is valid for five years from 28 October 2024."
The 5 year extension, I can understand, as well as the NH (ANA) codeshare. But I am indeed rather curious regarding the AC (Air Canada) and especially the QR (Qatar Airways) codeshare.
Yes, I know that AC and QR are Virgin partners and that a number of Air Canada passengers may well choose to fly Australia-Japan-Canada/USA as a 'Circle Pacific' flight. But the inclusion of QR is curious, to me. Surely, Japan and Haneda would provide an absolutely miniscule 'feeder' traffic flow for QR passengers ex Tokyo, either to or from Australia ?
Not sure why this post accepted the 'headline' but not the text (below) ?????
