Does anyone know anything re the status of the QF lounge upgrade program...little progress seems to have been made since the announcement of the $100m investment. For example, no works at ADL or LHR First. Are there works at SYD or MEL Intl.? AUK seems to be proceeding slowly....
The announcements seems to be made approx 2 - 4 years before any visible works commence. In the case of Auckland it's been longer than that but presume the pandemic slowed that down. Of course there would be work happening in the background before visible work commences.
In the announcement, it said that a new Hobart Qantas Club would be built as part of the overall terminal redevelopment, albeit with no start date. The terminal redevelopment has just begun, so I would expect to see something within the next 12 months.
There will be no hurry to upgrade lounges. Spending the investment over several years will make good business sense to Qantas as there will be no direct monetary return on this investment. We really need to take the $100m lounge investment announcement by AJ with a grain of salt as he was the king of PR spin towards the end of his tenure if we all remember correctly. The former CFO is now in charge so ROI is front and centre.
I notice they just tarted up the SYD J Dom lounge, I think new carpet and some new lounges. Personally I much prefer carpeted lounges but the lounge is still way past its use-by date.
There appears to be significant works between T1 and T2 at MEL underway which may be the beginning of the new Swing Gates project which will mean 2 domestic gates in Concourse C can convert to International as needed. If this is the case, the plan was for a new International Business Lounge to be built on top of this extension.....with windows!!!!! I wouldn't hold my breath though.
