Can someone please explain to me, at a time of apparent capacity issues, that 4 x A220 (so far, with next one not due until December) covers the retirement of 20 x B717s at QF???

There has been a lot of 737 flying on what were previously 717 routes, such as Sydney-Hobart.
It's not really being replaced by A220s. Not yet at least. I flew the 717 a lot, and more often then not now I'm on an Embraer 190. Sometimes a Dash 8.

The 717s have been replaced by Embraers and others in WA and elsewhere.
It is very disappointing and yet another example of Qantas' actions not matching its rhetoric. A big announcement was made that A220s would replace 717s on busy busy pairings like Sydney-Canberra but the reality is that the service on those routes has been downgraded to almost exclusively Dash-8s with one daily 737 service on week days. It's a further example of why the lack of domestic competition needs to be met with better consumer regulation.

The lease agreement with Alliance Airlines for the E190 aircraft is a possibility.
