Ok. I reckon VA needs to do it. Jetstar is no good for any flight over 2 hours, Qantas obvously doesnt see too much potential in Tasmania and doesnt do that many routes. Qantas only goes to SYD and MEL from hobart. VA does MEL, CBR, BNE and SYD... I think VA could try out PER for a bit just to see. The other thing is that VA flies to that many places from HBT considering but does not have a lounge - hope HBT gets 1 soon!
Yeah jetstar has a 'sort of' lounge at OOL and PER has the necessary Qantas lounges if you have the Status. Virgin has a lounge in PER and has announced lounges for OOL and DRW. Hope the next lounge they announce will be for HBT!!!
that would give them an edge over qantas and on top of this perth to canberra would be another good route for attracting business travellers. once again lounges in both airports
As far as regional airlines go Skytrans are about to open a daily service from Toowoomba-SYD and have price fares from $350 each way . Surly there is still room for more carriers yet and for current carriers to open up more regional routes considering the fares they can command.
I wish Skytrans the best of luck with that route. The connections between Brisbane Airport and Toowoomba are woeful. A lot of medium-sized businesses are based in Toowoomba, and it is not uncommon for companies to simply own an aircraft rather than commute to Brisbane or the Gold Coast.
anyway i have a feeling that there are many oppurtunities to start up in australia although perth would look like a good base for an airline, LCC or full service rather than the competetive east coast routes (although popular). What do you think?
It's not so much another airline, rather another hub. It surprises me that Bali is not being used as a discount transit hub by Australian airlines, as opposed to Singapore or in Jetstar's case, Darwin. The Indonesian Government is not doing itself any favours by charging USD25 for a visa, regardless of transit or visiting.
From Bali, you can connect to Malaysian, Cathay Pacific, KLM and Singapore Airlines services, amongst many others.
what about brunei, especially after royal brunei has announced that they are considering returning their leased boeing 777 aircraft to singapore airlines. brunei could be a transit hub from australia to asia and europe. you think?

True, and another good route that VA could do is the Perth to Gold coast route which i think would have quite good potential.

Yeah they could. JQ already does a direct PER > OOL 4 and a half hours... VA could easily bump jetstar out.

There is already Doha, Dubai and Abu Dhabi as middle eastern hubs. Is there need of more?
