Does anyone else find it strange the status credit earn rates on QF?
I flew biz MEL - LHR in September on QF9 and earned 240 status credits and then returned biz on QF8102/QF9 MXP - DXB - MEL earning 100 for MXP - DXB and 180 for DXB - MEL.
So despite flying a shorter distance on my return I was awarded an additional 40 status credits
Strange?

MEL-DXB-LHR on QF 9 is treated as a single flight, earning status credits for the total distance. MXP-DXB-MEL is treated as two separate flights which earn status credits for their respective distances.
This is absolutely correct.

Thanks Watson, I know thats how they're treated - it just seems a little odd to be earning more credits for shorter distance is all.

That's just how it works. It's by flight numbers, not takeoffs and landings.

It is not logical but if they can get away with it, why fix it?

P.S: Don't passively take it. Play the game; switch between QF 9 and QF1 and QF 2/10 on the return. Hopefully if more people do it the law of unintended consequences kicks in and they'll reactively rectify it!

I agree and always try to do this myself, however, switching sometimes results in a more expensive ticket (depending on which it might or might not be worth it).

or break from the QF flt number and transfer to a gatwick service (yeah you do loose the 380 but sure as hell gets you out of the hell hole that is LHR)

its like how business SYD ADL PER nets 140 status credits, while business SYD PER 80 status credits - yet the fare isnt any different normally.

Hence, folks, why fly direct when you can connect!

Exactly, especially when there is a partial sale, like currently with the MEL offers - it is cheaper (and nets more SCs) to fly SYD-MEL-PER than it is to fly SYD-PER nonstop.

The trick there is to go for the SYD MEL ADL PER option ;) and yes I have done it before

But of course! Especially on a nationwide sale.
