Lounges closing before last QF flight of the day? Yesterday there were delayed flights at BNE due to some runway debris etc. The resulting delays left BNE-CNS delayed about 2 hours and the last QF flight (there are a couple of JQ ones after that, which carry QF codeshare flight numbers). The lounge staff announced the lounge would be closing at 8.25pm (the revised boarding time of that flight) around 8pm. In the event the CN-BNE flight did not start boarding until about 8.40pm. Nonetheless, the lounge staff went ahead and closed both the biz lounge and QC and told the CNS passengers to go and wait at the gate.
Several questions arise:
- According to the advertised opening times the lounge/QC are supposed to be open until the last flight of the day - surely that means keeping open at least until the commencement of boarding?
- Have others experience premature closure of the lounges?
- The lounge staff may have felt that the CNS flight would be boarding soonish (in the event it was about 15 minutes after lounge closure) - what, if any, is a reasonable time interval between lounge closure and start of boarding of last flight of the day?
- If QF are determined to sell and market JQ flights as QF flights, is there an argument that the last QF flight of the day is the one carrying a QF flight number (if a codeshare)?
i flew out of the Perth QC to Melbourne being the 23:40 service, when we commenced boarding, i heard the lounge being closed as well, however i was positive there was a PER-BNE service after us as well, and they were asked to vacate the lounge.
I had an international flight from Cairns which was delayed by three hours. It was the last flight of the afternoon, the lounge was due to close after this flight. To their credit they kept the lounge open, on a public holiday, and continued to provide fresh and hot food until we had boarded.
I have heard that it's run inderpendently, and also that it's run by Cathay Pacific so I don't know what the true story is. I think the staff were in Qantas uniforms, though it was a while ago and my memory is failing me. All the airlines share that lounge, though it still has a very 1990's Qantas look and feel.

That's rather poor. They should remain open till boarding actually commences. It comes down to customer service.

JIm, when did this happen? The Qantas international lounge at CNS was closed years ago.

Earlier this year.
