110% Cathay.
The seats are fully flat the whole way versus MH's dreadful lie-flat on the A330 from ADL-KUL.
The lounges in HKG are far far better than MH's in KUL.
IFE is also better on Cathay.

I've flown both and I'd go for Cathay. Fantastic fully flat business class seat with ample personal space and great lounges in Hong Kong at which you can break your journey. Malaysia Airlines' KL lounge is not up to par with Cathay's Hong Kong lounges, even its business (Wing Business) and mixed class (Bridge, Cabin) lounges.

If same price, then of course Cathay, no question.
If Cathay was say 30% more expensive than Malaysian or more, then I would start considering Malaysian.

You'll also earn more points flying with Cathay - 1.25 per mile compared to 0.75 on Malaysia (which is quite a signficant difference!) Cathay is easily the better airline of the two.
That said, Malalysia flies daily nonstop out of Adelaide, while Cathay will require a stop in Melbourne for the next few months before they switch to less than daily nonstop flights later in the year. Worth considering.

I would go for Cathay, but it means a very early wakeup time for you, since the flight departs at 7:30am (or 6:30am, depending on time of year). Connection to CX 253 is swift and you should be able to complete it on time.
If being up by noon is a hardship for you, then I would recommend Malaysia, who does a 14:30 departure and has a more relaxed 4 hour connection time onto the A380 where there are almost flat business seats. Write a report if you can!

Cathay is superb. Faultless on my last two flights. Only thing was after flying Emirates, the IFE seemed slightly lacking. But that's it.

You've got to love these open ended unqualified questions. Everyone's circumstances are exactly the same right? ;)
What is your criteria to select an airline? How do you perceive value?

Is it business or pleasure (ie out of your pocket or someone elses?
Do you have pricing to compare and an amount you'd baulk at paying?
Do you absolutely have to be at a meeting shortly after arrival?
Do you sleep well on aircraft?
Are you travelling solo?
