Anything is possible with airlines, it can be a very fickle industry. I seem to recall Virgin Atlantic touting that they were looking into reaching further into the Australian market with flights from Melbourne, then a couple of months later they drop the news that they are pulling out of Australia all together. Surely at the time they were anouncing possible routes to Melbourne, they already knew that they were most likely pulling out of SYD-HKG? It makes you question how many of the statements that airlines and their media departments make are legitimate, planned and budgeted ideas or are just spin to create misdirection and hype up the aviation loving public and confuse/mislead competitors.

Here are some very good reasons I think Austline is trolling, he says "SCL gone code share with LA" yet as we can see from the link above, Qantas has announced that Sydney-Santiago will go UP from three flights a week to four flights a week. And also why would Qantas today announce BNE-LAX-NY as the 747 from 1 Feb if it's next Thursday going to announce stopping LAX-NY flights and handing them over to AA? Sorry Austline and Robert, your claims that those changes are 'fact' do not add up in light of today's announcement.

Al, what exactly is "trolling"?

Shouldn't everything that is said not be taken at face value and corroborated independently?

It's from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trolling_(fishing)

Trolling is a method of fishing where one or more fishing lines, baited with lures or bait fish, are drawn through the water.

See the connection? Throwing out these statements like they are going to happen, as bait to get people talking and all riled up.

Then see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet)

In Internet slang, a troll is a person who sows discord on the Internet ... with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response.

Regardless of how much of the OP is or isn't true this "Cut your way to profit" mentality seems to have invaded businesses everywhere.  No thought given to investing to make the business better just "cut cut cut" and it will be all ok.  Pity that train of thought pays no regard to the fact that once a weakness is sensed that competitors will swoop in for the kill, see CX ex PER.

Austline and Robert: what do you have to say now? :)

A week ago you were swearing on a stack of Bibles that QF would downsize the international division, slash international routes, stop flying to London and have all QF services terminate to Dubai, add more JQ international flights in place of QF.

How much of that came true? None of it.

And Robert, saying "The rumours are not only news but have been out ther for some six weeks" and "dont like facts that may soon hit you in the face.May be comment next week.Augustine,s delivers news you do not wish to here...just wait to they report next week. "

Well they have now reported and you were both proven to be full of sh*t. I hope that everybody on AusBT remembers this the next time you guys start mouthing off with silly rumours and saying "It's happening, it's not a rumour!".
