Hi all, was invited with a friend to go to New Caledonia for 5days next month and although not as popular as the likes of Fiji or Vanuatu, ive always been interested in going... (mind you i'm one aussie thats never been to either fiji or van) shock horror :)
i guess im the type of traveler that prefers to visit cities/countries that have historical/ cultural aspects rather then laze on a beach in fiji :)
What resorts or hotels are good to stay at? What sites do you recommend on visiting? Is it ok to just stay in and around Noumea or should i branch out to the provinces?
on a side note. i"ll be flying business class on aircalin. what loyalty program can i post my aircalin post to? i think only qantas and airfrance? any others?
has anyone flown that airline? thoughts? thanks for your info guys cheers!
Actually it's a very popular destination. Every South Pacific cruise will make a stop in Noumea. So it must be very beautiful. Side note: days where cruise ships dock will be very busy, I have found this in both Fiji and Vanuatu where cruise ships do not dock as much.
You can credit mileage to Flying Blue (KL/AF FF program - Skyteam). Only award miles granted, no level miles though. I believe FB is the "official" FF program of Air Calin
New Caledonia would be the closest place to Australia with a different date, ie, nearly 22 hours time and date difference.
That in my case, if I had the opportunity, would be the wow factor. Am sure for others who do the long hault to the US on a regular basis, its a ho hum experience, but it would be (for me, one day, long way away) would be, wow, first time crossing the international date line.
NZ and SEAsia are the closest I have been to, from Aust since coming here 30 odd years ago, as a teen.
Noumea , often called the French Riveria of the Pacific is one of the most interesting and beautiful south pacific cities , white sandy beaches , crystal blue waters and French Food , Wine and Champagne everywhere . It can be expensive if you buy non French products but a wonderful place for a short break . Ile de Pins is THE most amazing place I've seen in my 30+ years of travelling ..... it;s only 2.5 hour flying from Sydney and on the same time zone . Enjoy !
