I usually fly ADL- HongKong-Taipei internationally with CX, but the option has come up to fly Qantas ADL- SYD- HK -TPE. In terms of status credits, miles, and Hard Product, including Lounge, what would you say is the better choice? In terms of $, the price difference is cheaper with QF of about 1k. I have never flown to Asia with QF and if it was the A330, I would definitely choose CX, but it is the 747 so am very tempted to try QF even though it is a longer day.

Going via SYD will give you access to the fabulous QF F lounge as a Plat.
Which class of travel? QF always run either an A380 or refurbed 747 SYD-HKG that has the Skybed MK2.
Unless you are desperate to visit the Flounge I would take the more direct CX option - they have arguably the worlds best business class if thats the class you are flying.

What are the chances the Refurbished A330's would be in service by then?

Also as a Platinum, there may be the odd chance that you may get upgraded to the "old" first class seats, that are now sold as Business class.

Thanks, i was also thinking, for less $, i would be getting more status credits flying with QF direct. I think it's 120 one way with QF, where it's only 60 with CX... seeing i'll need more status credits to retain Plat this year, it might be worth it..

You will get more status points on Qantas metal but the seats are better on CX. You can use the 1st class lounge on either airline being Platiunum FF .
