Trying to book a CX flight via HKG to PEK. Showing that I can book a PY ticket however when I go to the seat map it shows the entire cabin full. Have they overbooked? I don't want to book and then be assigned a terrible middle seat..... Can someone shed some light on this...
This has been occurring regularly from Sydney .If you hold status with Marco Polo a quick way of assessing seat availability is to complete a booking but use the pay latter function . The booking will be created and you can view the seating under " manage your booking " . Usually there are a number of seats blocked for MPC members and they will be exposed once you create the booking with your MPC membership . Another check can be made by calling the Marco Polo Club ,they can advise the actual situation .
If they are all blocked then the cabin has been overbooked . Last week the PE cabin was so overbooked they asked many to downgrade or move to the latter flight.
In saying that I had to change flights at the last minute on a flight From Hong Kong all seats were blocked so I also thought the cabin was overbooked but in actual fact there were seven vacant seats in PE so the system seems to randomly block all seats regardless of the actual bookings !
Yes agreed the middle seats are to be avoided at all costs ,better to sit on the aisle in economy !
Last week, I flew SYD - HKG - SYD and booked a PE ticket as Business according to the System was sold out. When I got to the airport to check in, the agent advised me that PE was oversold and upgraded me to business. Funny thing, the same happened on the return. When in flight I peeked back into the PE cabbin and saw empty seats. Dont seem to understand the CX system latley.

Review the seat maps on expertflyer. CX tends to block seats particularly the first row of PE.
