Have Virgin Australia cut services from Sydney to Bali? It's seemingly gone from 2 direct flights a day to less than 1. This is looking across June / July which I assumed was a popular time. Perhaps making way for Tiger to pick up the slack? And sorry, I know this carrier / route doesn't fall into the premium / business area but thought some readers would be across this.

They're not making way for Tiger, Tiger's A320s can't reach DPS from SYD/MEL/BNE. If anything VA are feeling the heat from their higher costs compared to JQ & GA.

Is there something different about the Tiger A320's from a normal A320? A quick wiki search shows almost exactly the same range for an A320 vs 738.

Yeah they definitely have the range, albeit at the upper end. Borghetti has mooted putting the Tiger A320's on this route previously.

If A320s can fly SYD-DPS (which is the longest of the 3) then why has JQ never tried it? JQ has only ever used A330s or 787s to DPS from the east coast.

You're kidding me. That's your justification for why a A320 can't travel 4700km?

JQ operates widebody equipment on DPS routes from the East Coast because they can fill the larger aircraft; given the Bali leisure crowd doesn't need time-of-day flexibility (which would necessitate multiple narrowbody aircraft daily), it is most efficient to load all their customers onto the daily widebody flight.
Ditto for GA.

The costs blow me away. I can fly on GA for almost the same price and i get a lie flat bed in buisness rather than a domestic buisness product.

Likewise. Don't get me started on the economy product!

It actually went from once daily to 9X a week a few months back. Hasn't been twice daily for years. I've found the schedule unchanged over the coming months? Some services are heavily booked already though if you have a large number of passengers on your search?

do tiger have any A320s with sharklets?
i think A321s would be better than A320s for this route, lower CASM over long distance

From visual memory they do have sharklets. No A321s in the fleet, just 13 A320s.

In Australia domestically, the only A321 operator is JQ; those aircraft operate mainly on key ex-MEL routes such as OOL and CNS.
