Seat selection on QF marketed, EK operated flights. I cannot lock down my seat selections on the QF website for QF marketed, EK operated J international flights. QF call centre advice is that this is the norm for codeshare flights and EK might release seat selection to the QF marketed tickets closer to departure but if not I have to wait until checkin to lock down the seat. Is this advice correct? Still 60 days until the flight, I'm QF gold and it is a J class ticket. Thanks for any advice.
I have flown shorter lengths QF marketed and ticketed with QF flight number but EK metal, NZ (CHC-SYD) one in whY and another time in J, and have been able to choose my seat for both after booking and went into MMB.
Both were 777s.
Am surprised you couldn't pick seats in the booking process.
Didn't have to even mention when I appeared at CHC to show my Aust passport for the dip, and the seats I had chosen for both flights were on BP.
When I go into manage my bookings in QF the following appears and redirects me to Emirates to choose my seats
Seat selection is only available for flights operated by Qantas. To select seats and manage your booking, visit Emirates site with your booking reference
airADL is correct, but to help a little further - your Qantas itinerary will have a (primary) Qantas PNR, but it should also have a different/secondary PNR for the airline operating the flight (in this case Emirates).
Once you've found the Emirates PNR, you shouldn't have any issues logging into the Emirates 'Manage My Booking' page with the secondary PNR and your surname,
I've had to do this a number of times on VA codeshare flights on Etihad metal.
IFF that fails, call Emirates and they'll have no issues helping you out over the phone
Thanks for the tips everyone. I used the secondary PNR ("Airline Confirmation" No) from the itinerary and succesfully logged on to Emirates, "Manage booking", then selected seats. Seems all saved and locked in. I noticed my middle initial was added to the end of my first name on the Emirates site. Is this a potential problem or just the way Emirates displays passenger names?

I've had the same issue where the website showed seat availability, albeit limited for gold FF, but wouldn't enable me to lock it in.
I phoned Qantas and they secured my seat, which wasn't one that was shown on the booking management screen. I was flying QF on EK metal.
