Chance of upgrading from Y to F on QF 9/10?

Chance of upgrading from Y to F on QF 9/10? I thought I would draw on the collective wisdom/experience of members of this site. I'm intending to purchase a return Y ticket from MEL to LHR using QANTAS (QF9 QF10) in March next year. I'm a platinum QFF. I was thinking of using my points to request an upgrade from the purchased Y ticket to F. Has anyone had much luck with this? Might the chance of success increase for certain days of the week? Many thanks.

Qantas only allows upgrades to First from Business or Flexible Business Fares.

That being said, any Discount/Felxible Economy and Premium Economy fare will allow an upgrde to Business.

Doh, I need to get my letters right. I meant 'J' I will be puchasing a business ticket. Any advice now?

Ah excellant, in that case as a platinum you would have a good chance i think. not sure in relation to certain days of the week but you could always check the proposed dates for classic award availability and if there was most liley a upgrade would work. Im sure others here though would have a better process than this. Best of luck with it

From J to F you have some chances only if you have high status. Do not be greedy - J good as it is and if you will be lucky enough to get F then treat it like tattslotto win, but do not bank on it.
