When Qantas eventually refurbishes their A380s what the chances you that that they will remove first class altogether. If I remember correctly wasn't it the plan to have no first class after the first 12?

I would say unlikely.. It is still likely to be their premier aircraft and I think F still sells on LHR/LAX and DFW.

But I also suspect any refurb is a couple of years off.

Where has Qantas indicated that they are going to refurbish their A380?

They haven't but Chistoper likes being acting-CEO.

First delivery was 2008 and a mid-life refresh (8-12year point) is fairly common.

Yes I know I do act a bit like that, but yes it is fairly normal for a refurb in this up coming 4 year period of an aircraft. And well it is going to happen at some point. It doesn't need to be announced by Qantas to be talked about because it is plain and simple that will do it.

I'd think QF would keep First on their A380s for two reasons. Firstly, positioning company as a premier brand in the full-service airline industry. Secondly, to keep Platinum and Plat1 FFs happy. I'd imagine a lot of those folks are booking and paying cash for J-class seats and using points for First Class upgrades to LAX, DFW and LHR.  If that option goes away, what else do those travellers do with the FF points?  You get to a point at P and P1 where it becomes almost harder to 'spend' them than collect them, unless international upgrades are on offer,

Au contraire. If we're going to play Armchair CEO about Qantas First, I think they'll keep it.

Indeed they'll probably refresh or even perhaps introduce an entirely new hard product for First. Probably one that can also be installed on 777-Xs (because QF need a mid-sized jet, in between the 484 of the A380 and the 250-ish that will be going onto the 787-9... 777Xs (at around 350 to 400 respectively) fit that niche.

They'll also install the Qantas Business Suite when the A380s get refreshed.

And in addition they will keep First an exclusive Syd/Mel offering.

Flying flown F this month I'd say it is highly unlikely that F will be removed from the A380. It was packed on the outbound and inbound flights, so the seats are selling quite well albeit some used points to get a seat at the front.
