It's a bit hard to answer this question... Terrible customer service would not normally attract any compensation. As for the $1400, it will depend on the terms and conditions that apply to the ticket you bought (and not sure how they were originally free... you mean the tickets?).

Very tricky to answer this question as we do not know what occured..However with date changes its usually a case of the customer not getting what they want opposed to 'terrible customer service'.
If the flights were free, I assume it was a competition, gift or reqard seats, in which there will be a change fee... We've all been hit by them and they are a pain however its not bad service.

Just sounds to me like someone is just stroppy after not getting what they want.

To the OP, I don't think you're going to get very far, both here and with Qantas.
Good luck.

Don't know about the 1400 dollars, but if service really was bad, then best bet is to write to Qantas in the most level headed and constructive manner possible, outlining where the problem(s) occurred. There is no guarantee this will achieve results, but it has worked for me on other airlines in the past, in terms of additional FF points or a future upgrade.
