Why is CX's baggage allowance still so low? Almost all airlines flying out of Aus (not including LCC) have higher free check-in baggage allowance (i.e. 30kg for economy and higher for PE and Bus), but CX still has only 20kg for economy, 25kg for PE and only 30kg for Bus. Even SQ moved their baggage allowance up a while ago. Does anyone know if CX has any plans to changes this or do they have some special reason not to?
I have been wondering the same for a couple of years. CX is becoming more and more uncompetitive. The new changes to the Marco Polo Club are a prime example along with the baggage allowances as you mention.Just returned from a CX round the world trip in Business and even as a Diamond member they calculated my luggage weight to the very last kilo and even then tried inadvertantly to charge me excess (they mis- calculated as I flew via the States and the 30kilos does not apply) .The disparity between CX and the other Oneworld airlines baggage allowances is very frustrating.I queried this disparity but was informed there would be no imminent changes.I have noticed of late some CX fares are offering a higher baggage allowance but only as a special offer.
That sort of behaviour from an airline to it's loyal Business Class passeners on a round the world ticket is very bad indeed. They seem to be just as bad as the worst of the LCC's. I'm surprised they didn't pull the Baggage police on the aerobridge trick with the Salter Scales to do a random Cabin Baggage weight check as well.
I doubt every flight on the round the world trip was Cathay? They don't fly USA to Europe? So if not all flights were Cathay, you have to obey the rules of the carrier on the trip that has the least generous allowance when you start the trip.
Just booked CX business from Auckland to London return and got 40KG luggage allowance all the way through, before any additional FF llowances added on. No issues at all with this!

CX make a majority of their money through cargo, which is why they have to keep bagagge limits down.

CX has different baggage allowance rules to New Zealand - it is one of its exceptions.
