Bloomberg are reporting that Qatar Airways will soon fly direct from Qatar to Auckland and onto Chile as part of their expansion in the region. It would make sense that they would code-share with Qantas and possibly LAN - or will they go it alone??

The QR presser last year stated would fly to AKL - never mentioned direct DOH-AKL, but perhaps they may.

Good news for Auckland. When ever I am in Auckland I meet people from Chile.

Doubt they would codeshare with QF given the EK relationship there. LAN a possibility.

As I understand the announcement, the DOH-AKL route is certainly announced. However, they have only said that it will be 'direct' as opposed to non-stop. Indeed, it could be either. If non-stop, DOH-AKL would beat EK's proposed DXB-PTY, which will bypass QF's SYD-DFW as the world's longest flight.
As far as the SCL route is concerned, I understand this to be DOH-SCL-DOH (via the Atlantic Ocean).

Qatar ceo recently announced DOH-AKL and DOH-SCL using 777. They won't be flying AKL-SCL.

Another carrier flying to Auckland? I suppose it was only a matter of time before another ME3 carrier hoped on the AKL bandwagon.
I feel AKL is nearing on over-saturation? Trans-tasman is flooded with 10 airlines operating ex AKL. Europe is well served with many airlines offering streamlined 1-2 stop services.
I suppose QR would have comprehensively researched the NZ market, however I feel they will have more leisure travellers flying return to NZ, rather than New Zealanders flying QR to Doha and beyond?

if it's non stop AKL to Doha I imagine it would be a very attractive one stop to Europe from NZ.

Now on to Christchurch
I'll happily fly another airline who's name is not Virgin Australia or Air New Zealand between Brisbane and Christchurch.
Don't get me wrong both airlines are fine but when you know the crew on both airlines who normally operate these services then something is wrong.
