I used SYD-LAX as an example of a completely non-sensical route SQ would never dream of attempting.

@smit0847 but they have dreamt of attempting this route. Not saying they are going to do it now (ie no rights, market conditions), but they have certainly said so in the past.

@kimshep Well it wasn't my suggestion...
But, I would back SQ being very competitive on routes from Australia to the USA... I'd certainly hop on a SQ flight before a UA flight and I'm happy to take a straw poll that I am not alone... and I can only go off what SQ has stated they would like to do.
However, it is a mute point because as I have stated, SQ will most likely never obtain rights to fly this route. Ever.

I'm a long time advocate for VA to expand their international reach, particularly in Asia. Tokyo, HKG and KL are the 3 main destinations. From Sydney, of course.

Or once WLG extends it's runway, SQ can use an ultra range A350 to fly SIN-CBR-WLG-IAD-LHR-SIN... now that's a capital express ;-p

I am not just asking about possible Singapore airlines routes. I am curious to know what routes people would like ANY Airline to operate. The only way to get new services is to make demand known. The airlines do monitor this site!

I'm sure the airlines monitor web sites.... but I'm positive they put more weight on their own booking data and route planning teams.
Some of the suggestions I've seen out there from armchair airline ceos (including me), would quickly bankrupt many airlines.

I think airlines are going to trust their own models rather than the comments section of a travel website!

I' m a regular traveller into Hobart and am enjoying watching the city enjoy a MONA led upswing. There are good places to stay (Henry Jones) and good places to eat (Templo, Franklin etc). There's MONA and the posh pit out there. What's there's not is an international service.
Hobart and Tasmania is a fantastic product but it's too hard to get too. I always wonder why the Government down there doesn't get into bed with someone like Singapore or Emirates and put in direct flights. I would have thought that with a bit of marketing SQ could fill a 330 SIN - ADL service several times a week

Singapore airlines did operate several charter flights to Hobart in early 1990s. Think they used an A310 with a refuelling stop enroute, possibly Adelaide. Ansett and Taa operated weekly Hobart - Christchurch with 727s each operating on alternative weeks. This was replaced by air Nz operating weekly 737 - 200 flights. I flew on a flight in early 90s from Christchurch to Hobart and it was full! Mainly seniors touring Tasmania.Understand it stopped due to air Nz not having an etops 737 any more. Qantas also operated a 767-200 international connector on Mondays Sydney-Hobart-Sydney in early 90s. stopped as aircraft needed elsewhere. There is a market for Tasmanian flights provided you use right equipment!

I have always thought that Air NZ should start daily a320 flights between HBT - AKL and CBR - AKL to feed passengers onto their transpacific routes.
