HI, Does anyone know why Qantas has changed the routes from Sydney to LA, there used to be 2 flights on Qantas out of Sydney one in the morning, one in the afternoon ( which got moved to the afternoon)? I've just checked flights for June & there are only morning flights & there is only 1 direct flight with Qantas from Sydney to LA, they seemed to have axed the afternoon / night flight & instead there is a AA flight instead. Does anyone know why they've changed the flights? This is the same for flights coming, home we've now lost the 11:30pm flight via NYC to Sydney & left with the 10:30pm flight.
QF and AA increased their joint venture. AA started the new LAX-SYD route as part of this which allowed QF to return to SFO by reducing 747 flights on SYD-LAX (daily to 3 weekly), MEL-LAX (-1 weekly) and SYD-JNB (-1 weekly).
AA will be starting LAX-AKL in a few months as part of this expanded joint venture.
A few months after this was announced mid last year, they removed the SYD-LAX 747 completely to add 3 weekly 747 flights to MEL-HKG.
sacrifice implies there is some sort of loss. If you book the qantas codeshare you get the same amount of frequent flier points. The catering has been aligned so your flying experience will be pretty similiar on either airline.

They'll move the B747 service to MEL-HKG leg, so they must shift the B747 to LAX from SYD away.

The second QF flight was sacrificed to AA so that the SYD->SFO flight could restart
