According to two websites found via a google search, top speed is 160km/h in NSW and 130km/h in Victoria

I guess even slower over the Km's of mud and sink holes in the Northern Victorian section.

Ah, the XP .. even Grandad's Volvo is faster - and that's with his hat 'on' LOL.
Certainly not comparable speedwise, when you look at the excellent German DBahn / Chinese Maglev and the Japanese 'bullet' trains. And people in Australia still cling to the idea of 'high speed rail'. ROTFL

Yeah I heard on the news how they will spend upwards of $100 billion in 50 years so Australia could have the trains Japan proposed in the 1960s.
I wish it could be a reality like in Europe but unfortunately I never see it happening in Australia (even America is changing its mind).

It will not happen in any close future – we have not enough passengers and effectively there is only two places worth to stop – Melbourne and Sydney. We are small nation living in huge land and it plainly silly to compare ourselves with Europe and Japan.
