Singapore Airlines - how bad is the reconfigured 777-300???
I'm booked MEL - SIN in J on one of these ancient noisy beasts...considering changing to another time just to avoid....any thoughts?

It is terrible, they fly it on the SIN-BKK route and even for 2 hours it's unpleasent.
Change to the 777-300ER which flies the 15:40 and 00:05 departures ex MEL, it's (in the opinion of many) the best J product in the sky.
The 18:25 departure on an A330 is marginally better than the old 777, but still best avoided for flights over a few hours.
Poor Melborune. Great city, but underserved by all the carriers.

Not accoding to SQ's website. On that it shows the 10:30 as 777-300, which is not the ER and has the old, domestic like J product.

Wouldn't really call Melbourne 'underserved'

Concur I flew it a fortnight ago, I've had better domestic business class products. Probably the worst J product I've experienced in a long time.

What is so bad about it? Can we provide some examples?
I'm not sure if people are being precious or if it is really that bad.

I'd say the former.

In the grand scheme of things of cource its not that bad. But the standard for J is now 1-2-1 with a private suite-like feel. The new plane has that, the old one does not.
Some travelers like Iike to get the best product available, especially when the orice is comparable. Therefore the posters question is valid, albiet a bit hyperbolic.

I admit it's a very 1st world complaint, but given the price is the same, yet the product so different, I'm entitled to ask.

Don't be confused....these are the oldest aircraft in the SIA fleet, and last time I flew one in 2005, all I can remember is how noisy the aircraft was....this time it will be so much worse given I've been spoils by the super quiet A380...
