So, you delete "comments which centre on how an article has been written or presented". And you call yourself journalists? Right-thinking people might see such avoidance of criticism as pretty gutless.
Hey, since we're chatting about comment policy, can I throw my two cents in?
Could we possibly look at the auto-moderator, which puts a temporary hold on comments containing outside links?
I'm not sure if it's feasible in the AusBT back-end, but it would be nice to "safe list" certains sites/domains, so the comments can appear immediately instead of waiting for human approval...
Not every site of course, but relevant & trustworthy domains like "qantas.com" and "oneworld.com" etc, so we can help other users. It's nice to help other members in the Q&A, and it's a great assistance to add a link to pages that support the answer you're giving them (such as direct links to fare conditions, lounge eligibility pages, media releases, etc).
Food for thought, feel free to delete after reading! :-)
Good suggestion, Jay: we already have some URLs on this 'safe list', so they should get through without drama, and we do want to add more to it. It's sorta "on the to-do" list :)
1. Policy doesn't say thay will be deleted – it allows that they are candidates for deletion, and suggests that issues regarding "how an article has been written or presented, or which are less about the content of the article than about AusBT as a publication" can be emailed to me.
2. This is all about keeping the comments under an article on the topic that's of relevance to readers – people come to read the article and discussion on its content, which thus adds value to the article.
If you don't like the policy, that honestly doesn't matter to me.
Funny how it's always the same few people who seem to whinge on this site when they don't like something. To be honest I'm tired of seeing people bitch about this that and the other whenever something doesn't go their way on here, which takes over discussions from actual travel stuff which is what I come here to read.
That happens on most websites with any semblance of 'community', Dean, which is why quite a few sites these days just switch off comments and have no community interaction at all. I'm happy just to read all the good articles about travel and frequent flyer schemes and lounges and what-not right here, and perhaps credit to AusBT for even allowing comments and answering these questions here when they don't have to.

Also on that list: ability to edit comments within a short timeframe after they've been posted

If you're sensitive about being criticised, that honestly doesn't matter to me.
