Any recommendations for a hotel in Singapore? I've been visiting Hong Kong a bit for work and now it looks like this will branch out into Singapore. First business trip there is later this month or early November. I've read some of the reviews of Singapore hotels here on AusBT but would value recommendations from the rest of you guys on where you've stayed in Singapore, both good and bad.
Marina Bay Sands is amazing. Stayed there in Feb for 2 nights, i would recommend booking a Club Room City View. You will certainly get your monies worth with the breakfast, drinks and nibbles of an evening. Be prepared for this hotel to be be very busy though. If you dont want it to be busy then i would suggest the Fullerton.
Hey Al: I've been to Singapore plenty of times over the years and it really depends what you're after. My biggest concerns with MBS would be the location – it's well away from the CBD, if that's where you will be taking meetings etc – and to be honest, the rooms are really basic and not up to snuff for the business traveller, it's more of a holiday/conference hotel, and in both cases that means standard rooms are pretty average.
I'm a fan of the Fairmont and Swissotel if you want to be around the CBD – great location, right above shops & MRT (metro), but also not smack in the 'downtown' area around Orchard/Scotts where things get super-busy - closer to the CBD and financial district, The Fullerton is superb (as is its Fullerton Bay boutique offshoot). I also love the Mandarin Oriental, which is at the Marina Bay end of town, but it's a bit away from the CBD and of an evening, getting taxis from there is a hassle.
Hi David, next time in Singapore try the Ritz-Carlton (and possibly review about it), it was amazing. It's located 10 minutes' walking time from the Fairmont and is worth it.
Try the shophouse rooms at InterContinental for an upscale feel of 'old Singapore' - very evocative! The location is good if you're doing business around the CBD. I agree with TomMcMenemie that MBS is amazing. But the crowds are a huge turn-off, especially if you stay on the lower floors where you can be gawped at. I know, I was one of those gawpers last week! Still, I'll stay there for a wekend in Nov. just to say I've been.
My personal fav. though is still the Holiday Inn Orchard City Centre (formerly HI Parkview). Its been reviewed here before and more than lived up to my expectations. Its not your average HI, that's for sure - way more classy. I like it the location near Orchard Rd; great for dining and shopping but away from the crowds too. Excellent service, good breakfast buffet, nice lounge/bars. Its definitely not cheap for a HI, but its the hotel I keep coming back to in Singapore.
Ah yes, I forgot the InterCont at Singapore - almost around the corner from Fairmont & Swissotel, so again, handy location, and everything you expect from an InterCont.
Al, try to get breakfast and Internet included if you can, and also, consider using Wotif and looking at their 'secret' Wot Hotels and then using a little canny Googling to wok out which hotels they actually are! I did an article on this some time back , at http://www.ausbt.com.au/how-to-crack-wotif-s-mystery-hotel-code...
Thanks everyone, I never thought there'd be so much choice. Well I should of course have expected it, but what I mean is, there are quite a few factors to consider!
I would recommend the Marina Bay Sands (excellent rooftop pool - and great sightseeing from the top, along with an awesome location at the Marina for day and night), and second I would recommend the Grand Hyatt Singapore.
Both are premium 5* hotels, and premium priced (btw $300-$400) - and always raved about on the blogs I read.

Marriott is good. So is Naumi if you like smaller boutique-style hotels.
