It is not yet confirmed that the 3 furbished non ERs will be retired as the 787s arrive. There is no doubt the 2 nonfurbished aircraft will be retired, but QF may keep the other 3 around for longer. It depends just what the first 8 787s will be used for.
They will need to keep them around if a midlife refresh on the A380s happens, they will also need to keep them if they open new routes with the first batch of 787s.
The two non-refurb aircraft do however still have the old fully flat First cabin in the nose which is a bonus for the (usually elite) J class pax who get allocated these seats.
Both aircraft are also meant to get a refresh - carpets, seat coverings etc soon.
Unfortunately they will still have the positively archaic Rockwell Collins tiny square screen IFE

Yes that's true. I guess the retirements of the 3 non ER refurbished 747s will depend on the fuel price, and so it will for the ER B747s.

Qantas probably needs to order another 12 for a total of 18 787-9s so they completely replace the b747 fleet and good amount of growth.

20 total I mean. That will mean an extra 4.5 aircraft of seating.
