This evening my Daughter was refused entry into the outbound express path in Sydney because she was flying Economy on QF
I had obviously given her a spare unused pass to use and yet she was redirected to the usual entrance
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Just as well she was allowed to use a spare QF Lounge pass! At least QF didnt refuse her entry into the lounge!

Did she show them the Express Path card, or the Boarding Pass? As a newbie to such procedures, she may have well not shown the Express Path card.

Was the pass issued by the same airline as the flight she was on? If not, I wonder if this is what caused her to be denied entry.

These days they scan the boarding pass but if it's not businss or first then you show them the Express Path card - that should definitely have let her through.

I think all express cards should be dated and only good for that day. I too have accumulated a handfull of these because half the time no one takes them off you. Not the greatest worry in the world if you have to join the queue you should be in the first place.

Express Path is a queue-jumping service that's built into the cost of your ticket, and if you don't utilise it on a particular day, it should be available for later use at your discretion.
There's nothing wrong with accumulating a handful of cards that you then pass on to friends or family. Circumstances might dictate you don't utilise the card on the day it's given to you: The general-public queue might be quiet and fast, or you might use an APEC card / other credentials to skip the queue.
sgb, why would you, a business traveller (presumably), actively call for the cards to be dated / shoot yourself in the foot like that?

It is designed to be used as a privileged part of your Business fare class structure experience, not saved up or given to others to clog up the system when they are otherwise not entited. If I was travelling steerage (I don't think so) I would not expect such preferential treatment being doled out to interlopers. I think you should get what is your entitlement, and use it. I can even see LCC passengers trying this trick, let alone QF, not at all fare. I'm not shooting myself in the foot, rather protecting the designed experience and the spirit of the offers intention.

Small perk in the big picture. I presume the original poster of this question in discussion (John) was given the spare express path voucher with a Business Class fare.
