Hi all, I would like some advice from people who fly in these planes regularly. I’m flying from BNE to NTL return. I’m a platinum QF. On QANTAS planes, I can always select a seat – but I can’t on these aircraft. I cannot even see the seat-map. I would like seat 1A or 2D. Can I see the map and select the seat at T-80, or do I wait for OLCI and T-24? Any other advice? Many thanks.
The seat selection page on the Qantas web site clearly states that advance seat selection is not available on flights operated by Dash 8 aircraft; only an aisle or window preference can be recorded. You can select your seat when the flight opens for checkin online.
If you ring Qantas they will pre book your seat of choice if you are gold or above hope this helps.i fly melb Launceston every month and do just that .every now and again someone says they can't ,just ring back and get someone else and they do it,
They say it's a weight distribution thing, load of crap really, just an excuse for really bad service, I fly on these a lot in Nth Qld, half the time the exit rows are empty but they are not available during online check in, I don't know why they would want to prevent people sitting in the best seats, seems quite petty really.
Thanks everyone for your responses. It's an aircraft I'm not used to flying in. I will try ringing QANTAS and see how I go. I find they are usually pretty good.

I've never seen the QF website offer a seat map for selection on a Dash 8. It has only ever offered picking a window or alsie seat.

The information can be found online, so I suggest you research the legal/flying/exit row requirements for this aircraft type.
