Have requested a points upgrade on QF10 from J to F. I've been checking regularly in the week prior to flight and it still says requested. Platinum flyers. I know from experience QF don't always notify when it's approved but do they change it from requested to 'denied' (or something similar) if it's not approved?
Also, ExpertFlyer says 4 seats reserved and 3 blocked in F. Any ideas what the blocking usually is for those routes?
I recently requested the same upgrade on the same flight. I received a SMS around 60 hours prior to the flight. You say 'platinum flyers', but I'm not sure what you mean. Do you have platinum status? In which case, you should hear around the time I did (I think they say 48 hours for plat). I have heard of occasions where people find out via online and not through SMS. If it has been denied, you will see. I hope your upgrade comes through. The chance of success for Plat FFs is good. I had a great flight from LHR to Mel and QF first is fantastic. I wouldn't worry about the blocking. It could be for last minute passengers - or it could be for your upgrade.
Yes, GregXL< you are most probably correct. Its's certainly how it works for QF domestic flights. Before my upgrade was confirmed I noticed that all of the seats on the port side (a) were blocked out. These are generally considered the best because the port aisle is only used by four people. However, when the upgrade came though, I had seat 4a

Would the blocked seats in F be the better locations and held for CL and P1 pax?
