Just go straight to business checkin, you can board early, also use SQ lounge, extra luggage etc etc

As above but just watch out for airports like Paris where they tried to tell me I wasn't allowed the extra luggage and also wouldn't let us use the priority line thru customs. As a VA Platinum I sent Singapore Airlines an email complaining and they really didn't care, they acknowledge that I had issues.

Also you can't use the lounge in CDG because it's a Star Alliance lounge not SliverKris (unless flying J or F of course)

Been reading the VA Velocity website International Lounge Access page.
Clearly if you're VA Platinum flying economy the best option is to fly on Etihad. At CDG you're able to use the Etihad First Lounge and at EY's home base you're able to use the First Class lounge & Spa.
With SQ, CDG is not listed as one of the places with a lounge that VA Platinum members can use. You don't even get to use the main SQ Silver Kris lounge at SQ's home base. You have instead the Krisflyer Gold Lounge, without a shower!

I had to argue at LHR to get my full luggage allowance. After a bit they agreed that Platinum was equivalent to PPS and did not charge me. Was rather worried as excess would have been a huge bill )-:

That is incorrect. VA Platinum is not equivalent to SQ PPS. PPS is designed to be exceptional and unequalled.
From the screen shots below, you will note VA Platinum baggage allowance across Economy, Business and First is equal only to Krisflyer Gold, not PPS.
PS: Guys, your quotation feature fails to work, when remarks are edited. You might want to look into this.
