Cathay's iDevice connectivity ports actually rely on a specific type of adaptor which CX carries on board to loan to business class travellers, although you can buy your own (eg http://store.apple.com/us/product/TX890VC/A/griffin-export-in-flight-video-cable-for-ipod-and-iphone). But to use this with an iPad Mini or iPhone 5 you'll need a version of that adaptor cable with a Lightning socket on the end, or a Lightning-to-30 pin adaptor plug. I'd rate that later as far more useful! If you're visiting Hong Kong you can pick up a Lightning-to-30 pin adaptor at the street markets (eg Ladies Markets, Mongkok) for around HK$100-120 (that's A$12-$15).
