They could start by banning domestic flights on QF/JQ from the F lounge. For a domestic flight, there isn't need to get there 3 hours early and drink and eat your fare! The mutters at AFF are ruining the QF experience for good QF customers by opening exploiting things and all hitting lounges for a free lunch together. Get those moths out of your pockets fellas and head to Rockpool, Quay or Chiswick and have a nice meal without pretending you are high rollers. I also bet you are the first ones to moan when QF make lounge access changes.... It's a matter of time. There are too many Platinums now and P1 may have been a way to phase in new rules. Lets see......

HTC, I agree completely. Some people need to 'get a life' and I do something think the really rabid ones risk spoiling it for everybody else.

I know some people here are also on 'Australian Frequent Flyer' and there are a lot of good people there, but I think any sensible person would have to agree that treating the Qantas First Lounge like it's part of a 'pub crawl' or even a social club for planespotters and wanna-bes is just wrong.

I bet the lounge staff cringe on the inside when dozens and dozens of these people tramp into the lounge en masse and start to order up big on the free food and drinks, to the inconvenience of the real travellers.

If Qantas ever decides to make the international first class lounge available only to international passengers as you suggest, just wait for the uproar and outrage from all the people at AFF who will ironically be the ones to blame for domestic access being withdrawn!

I think restricting the First lounges to international flights is a great idea - domestic travel via International terminals just to get access to the First lounge seems like a massive loophole.

Hopefully that would make enough of a difference that they won't be restricting access to the First lounge for Platinum members travelling internationally, though, as it would be a real shame to lose that privilege.

AI , do you fly first class often or are you just a poser with an opinion ?

There's no need for name-calling, Tuppaware, and I don't see what my own choice of flying classes have to do with this. Or what anybody's choice of flying class has to do with this.

And even if I did fly first class, often does that make me not a poser with an opinion? Does it somehow make my opinion more valid? It doesn't.

This discussion is actually not about flying international first class, it's about flying domestic - and probably domestic economy, on the cheapest JQ ticket! - and using this to IMHO 'abuse' the first class lounge.

AND - in their jeans and running shoes! ;)

Hey, nothing wrong with jeans and running shoes! Well, okay, as long as the jeans are smart, clean and pressed, and the running shoes are clean and stylish! But seriously, as a many-time visitor to the QF First Lounge I can tell you that there's a lot more people in casual dress than suited and booted... as long as it's smart casual, I'm good with that.

Al and HTC, I'm guessing neither of you have been to the F lounge before? I can let you know that the staff certainly  do no cringe when we have an organised meet there, infact they are very accomodating. oh and I can also tell you that we do dress smart casual in the lounge but other people dress far worse than we do..

Then you'd be guessing incorrectlly, Nicklg, although once again I don't how my having ever been to the lounge is relevant or makes any difference to my point.

It's odd that some people take issue with my opinion begin by assuming I have never flown first class or been in the first lounge, as if their having done so nullifies my opinion.

Anyway, yes, I've been guested into the QF first lounge when flying to Singapore with a Platinum friend. What difference does that make?

And of course the first class lounge staff will be all smiling and welcoming and accommodating. That's their job! But I would bet you that 'inside' and behind the scenes they are rolling their eyes and will be breathing sighs of relief when your flights are called and you all troop out of there.

So if you don't use the lounge, why are you so upset by people that are entitled to use the lounge and do use it??

Well as you haven't been in the lounge when a gathering is on you are only guessing that they are doing. I can you tell from experience that they aren't.  but hey, you keep thinking they don't want us in the lounge....

It seems that the Australian Frequent Flyer members are forced to fly with Jetstar to gain lounge access on their trips. I think the least Qantas can do is provide them with First Class Lounge Access and Spa treatments.

From what I have heard from my boss I wouldn't want to fly on a Jestar flight, he made it sound quite awful. Apparently there were people traveling in flip flops. (I believe they are also called thongs.)

Nicklg: Why are you on here? I think JQ has a sale on this afternoon..... buy a few fights! Intl departure! Mate - I spend more time in FL than you probably spend on internet dating each year. Just want to see FL access maintained for us P1's and not another benefit taken away in coming years.... exploitation is always watched by QF and I'm sure changes are in the wings given how busy the FL is!

htc, throwing insults doesn't get you anywhere. Considering I am not on any dating sites, that means you don't spend anytime in the F lounge. And QF are well aware of the lounge meets (which are infrequent) and the goodwill it generates The fact that many fly in from other parts of the country generates more for them too. It's not like it happens every weekend either. So please jump off your high horse.

That's a fair point, NIck. Enjoy your weekend get-together at the lounge and best of the season to you.
