Hi Everyone, i have been qantas gold for 3 years now. Due to the birth of our second child, my travelling dropped, i could'nt get to the required level of status credits for renewal of gold. I tried requesting parental pause with qantas, but unlike Virgin, the process was tedious, so i did'nt bother submitting any paperwork and didn't pursue parental pause. I was well short of 200 status credits and 2 more qantas trips to achieve gold. To my surprise, i received my renewal of qantas gold in the mail yesterday. I would like to add that i have a booking in the next 8 weeks that would take me close to Platinum (with double status credits). Is this unusual/mistake?
Have a read through other posts here - you'll find instances where a 3-4 year average of over achieving a status level will lead to Qantas comping you in a year where you might fall short. There doesn't appear to be anything official on record and I'm sure Qantas take a myriad of factors into account.
On another note, you commented that the Qantas parental leave process was tedious compared to Virgin...Have you experienced the Virgin process? Have you given feedback to Qantas re this?
@markpk Qantas wanted a letter from my work place to say that i'm not able to "work" due to the birth of a child. I work for myself, that did'nt matter to the agent on the phone. Second, was a copy of the child's birth certificate (i found that too much personal information to be shared with an airline). Virgin was pretty simple (i'm platinum with them), wanted the date of the birth of the child and within 2-3 mins, it was processed. I called Virgin first and expected the same with Qantas. I'm not upset with Qantas, just not wanting to go to the lengths they wanted me to go, so i was prepared to go to silver and regain gold or platinum on my next travel in May.

Have to agree with you on that one - a letter is fine, but a copy of the birth certificate? Sounds like in-house legal had to great a role in formulating the proof policy!
