I've been booked on an Emirates flight to Europe in Business Class on their 777 - 300er. I've not travelled with EK, but when booking I was advised that the seats were lie flat. After reading reviews, I've discovered this is not the case. I find the 777 a noisy aircraft, and can change to QF A380 but wanted to see if the angled seats on EK are worth suffering through?
They're angled lie flat, although this is changing with their new fit-outs, and they're in a 2-3-2 configuration. A380 every time. If you get a QF bed that sags a bit, a cabin bag under the end of it will fix it.
Emirates does have angled lie flat beds on the 777s, but they're not the same type of angles lie flat as say, the old Skybed 1s. Instead, the emirates seat does not go 100% flat in the upper body seat, while the seat/ legs are pretty much 180. Compare this to the sagging QF seats which are in essence the opposite, and the Emirates ones may actually be preferable.
EK has a slight edge on food in my opinion as well. Not saying it's definitely better, but if switching is going to cost a great deal of cash and you can't switch to one of the million better options to Europe (I highly rate Qatar), you may as well stay on EK.
Plus there's always the chance you get the new fully flat seat anyway, which would definitely be better than QF I think
how can you even contemplate to compare these 2 product?like apple to a pear-should compare the 380-s for both .The EK business class on 380 is superior to QF
In reality, I wasn't very clear on my question to the group. The option to change to a QF A380 via LHR will add 5 hours to the journey and cost another $800. I didn't mind the money, but really wanted to sense check my 'very 1st world problem' with the group. The other thing is that my travelling partner is on EK in 1st...no real problem here as we will both arrive into BCN within an hour of each other.
QF is known and trusted for me, EK is both unknown and a little concerning re the cramped nature of the cabin. I'm sure I will manage with either option. The second leg Dubai to Barcelona is on a EK A380 so that flight will be fine.
Thanks for the responses guys....appreciate the effort.
So to change to QF will cost you an extra $800 and add 5 hours to the trip? No way is that a good deal. Stick with EK and just pick a good seat. (The window seats behind the bulkheads give direct aisle access and are VERY private.)
I was under the knowledge that the the new fully flat business class seats are only coming on the new boeing 777x and won't be retrofitted onto existing flights. 777X is due 2020.
are there new biz class seats coming prior that I don't know of?

Nobody is going to suggest EK over QF in this instance. Why would anyone want an angled flat over a fully flat?

Alright Russell, I'll bite!

The Emirates business product it fine - certainly wouldn't pay $800 extra to fly Qantas A380 as per John. Enjoy your trip!

Would suggest the A380 over the 777, but when you mention $800, I wouldn't pay the extra difference. The Emirates product is still comfortable
