You are correct. Lots of people do the flight change to gain the extra credits and the lounges in Singapore both BA and Qantas are decent enough for a longer stop
The A380 BA11/12 is also more pleasant for the longer flight.
Ex-LHR BA11 leaves earlier, which allows you to connect to SYD at SIN.
If SYD is not your final destination, try to avoid the QF-operated BA codeshare services from SIN. You're missing the opportunity to earn 40 TP (40 SC as well?) on the SYD/XXX AU domestic sector.
In for a penny, in for a pound - you've already been travelling for close to 24h, what a few more hours in SYD?
For maximum status credits, why not LHR - TXL - OSL - DOH - NRT - SIN - PER - MEL - SYD.
In for a pound, in for 100 pounds
The $/SC rate would be too high since you have to do multiple legs on different OW airlines. Exploite the fare rules while you can but it would be quite moronic to put yourself out when the math doesn't work.
And yes you are correct, you could do something similar in the good old days of the QF/BA partnership when the points earned on this route with either airway were identical. Start on QF1 / QF31 then switch to BA in Singapore, alas the Emirati and their oil money

BA15 London to Sydney (stop in Singapore) in J on the points calculator will earn 140SCs
travel times are close enough for me. I know BA J is not highly rated but it is $1500 cheaper than QF J at present.

Thanks for the responses Sydney is my final destination. Will change flight for those couple of extra SCs.
Also delayed my loyalty bonus decision with QF so have an extra little boost for this membership year.

To book those QF flights with QF codes you do indeed need to ring BA :)
