Recently joined a new company and then discovered their travel tier system is shit. Combined with being based in MEL (rather than SYD) organising travel is doing my head in. Could use some advice.
I travel to HKG, SIN, and KUL (and occasionally CGK & BKK) all from MEL. Policy says I can travel PE between Aus/Asia for flights Sun-Thu. Flights within Asia are all eco.
With the bump down from business I'm going to struggle to maintain qantas platinum. Need suggestions on the best routes to maximise oneworld status earn whilst preferably travelling PE.
as your based in Melbourne direct flight to BKK and SIN as well as others can be done on jetstar, you could just reason with the company that jetstar business is premium economy and book that where possible so you'd still earn the J equivalent status credits

The issue is the A330 doesn't have a PE cabin. Your best bet to max SCs is to route via Sydney in Y if possible then jump on the A380 flight to HKG (seasonal only) or take the 747 from MEL to HKG then connect on a Cathay flight which will obviously be Y. Cathay run PE to Australia but you'll cop a SC hit flying them.

Assuming you channel all your traffic, except one MEL/SIN return trip**, via HK and stick to flying only CX/KA, you can maintain oneworld Emerald with BAEC for under 7 return trips in a year as follows:
MEL/HKG in E/R/W 90 Tier Points each way
HKG/SIN, KUL, CGK, BKK in H/B 20 Tier Points each way*
HKG/CGK in H/B 70 Tier Points each way*
* I've assumed you will fly in the Economy cabin for the regional sectors. If PY is offered in those cabin, you earn 35 Tier Points for all sectors earning 20 Tier Points, and 90 Tier Points to CGK.
So a typical return trips would give you 220 Tier Points (90 + 20 + 20 + 90)
You will earn BAEC Gold (OW Emerald) after 1,500/220 = 6.8 trips
** To make BAEC Gold, you will need to fly 4 sectors on BA. Since SIN is one of your destinations, then the following applies:
MEL/SYD in H/B/Y 20 Tier Points each way (make sure the flight is a BA-coded flight)***
SYD/SIN in T/E/W 90 Tier Points each way
So a return trip would earn 220 Tier Points (90 + 20 + 20 + 90) AND 4 BA sectors.

But saying that I would not work for company that pushing me to fly economy 8+ hours - way too many routes to Asia do not have PE - without reasonable compensation. Thanks Serg. Flying direct would work fine for me rather than via HKG or SYD if avoidable. But looking at the QF and JQ websites it looks like you can earn points but not status credits flying JQ Business. Am I reading it right?

you can status credits when flying JQ at the qantas business earn rate if you pay for the business max package

I have the same impression as freshthoughts. Max pack will cost overall as PE, but will give you points, SC and lounge access not mention flexibility with ticket.
