Aegean Airlines nolonger recognises Star Alliance Gold within Greece

Aegean still operates domestic flights using both flight numbers. Your non-Aegean Star Alliance status will only be honored if you booked against the A3 flight number. It has been this way since they bought out Olympic Air, and while I'm not certain of the reasons it would not surprise me if it was due to labour contracts.

This is not really any different (from an alliance perspective) to the way in which Singapore Airlines and SilkAir are operated. Both have their own website and sell each others' flights as codeshares and/or interlined flights, however non-KrisFlyer Star Alliance members won't receive benefits on MI coded flights (regardless of whether it's a SQ operated flight).

The same thing with Thai Airways and Thai Smile, and to a lesser degree Lufthansa and Eurowings.

I flew Olympic last year and my *A Gold Status was honoured with priority baggage tags on check-in and boarding, as well as lounge access in Athens. This must be a new measure in place then? With which airline is your *A Gold associated with?

Olympic Air is a Star Alliance affiliate carriers, as its parent company Aegean Airlines is a full member.

So, Olympic would be honoring Star Alliance frequent flyer membership tiers and points accruals/usage.

Yes, all Greek domestic flights are now Olympic flights wet leasing Aegean aircraft and are no longer on the Star network. Even if you book with A3 flight number, it is still an A3 codeshare and your boarding pass will still show OA flight number. However, some international flights that are operated by Olympic are in fact Aegean wet leasing Olympic aircraft, hence counting as Star flights. 

Yanni, Thank you.  I was just passing through Athens yesterday and one if the Athens station managers indicateted very strongly that Aegean will leave Star Alliance soon.  Unfortunately the Aegean staff have been told to tell other Star Alliance members that it will all be resolved next week and they have been saying this for months rather than saying how it really is.
