I was hoping someone may be able to clarify a confusing seatmap for QF 43 SYD-DPS. I'm QF Plat and have booked into economy on a 737-800 but the seatmap is showing a 2 - 2 configuration when pre-selecting seats in rows 4 to 7. I spoke with Qantas and they assured me it is 2 - 2 as the aircraft 'is narrower;' in those rows (not possible as it is a 737 - so didn't have a lot of confidence in what I was being told). Has anyone ever seen this before? I am assuming for some reason they have blocked the middle seats for operational reasons?
My understanding is that due to the distance of the flight, there is a weight limitation, and as a result they don't sell all the seats. It is some of the middle seats that have been 'removed', at least from seat selection.
VA do weight restrict on DPS ex SYD and BNE (and on other routes especially like SYD APW, MEL NAN) but the seats left empty comes down to day at airport by airport manager rather than preempted like QF. Also it allows flexibility for the airline to use the free seats to go with parents with an infant etc so yeah...

Was on QF43 few weeks back, the seats in rows 4-7 have the middle blocked as there is a weight restriction. The aircraft is not narrower there.

Virgin Australia use the same plane have more seats than Qantas and do not block any seats. Wonder why they do not have a weight restriction?

They probably do. They probably don't sell all the seats - but leave them all available to be selected.
