Is it possible to check in early before the QR desks open which usually is 3.5 hours before the flight? As a One World Sapphire flying in F than you can use a Qantas desk elite desk or First Class desk that can check you in for the Qatar flight or do you have to wait for QR to open at SYD?
I'm also curious about this but I suspect the answer is that it's not possible for early check in on QR flights outside Abu Dhabi or London Heathrow (and maybe Paris) I cannot see Qantas being able to issue your tickets and bag tags, or being willing to hold on to your stuff for a few hours. Have you given the QR contact number a call to see if they can provide any further information?
The QF call centre told me I can't check in at their desks for an EK flight even when travelling on a QF (award) ticket. If this is accurate, can't see why QR would be different. Was Platinum call centre, so you'd assume some competency when giving the answer.
As far as I have been told, you always need to check in with the operating carrier. Unless you are flying QF and then connecting to QR on the same ticket, QF will not be able to check you in for your flight.
Admittedly it's a different airport, but last year I arrived at Haneda 6 hours early on ANA for my QR flight home (in J). QR's agents, JAL, would not accept my bags, so I had to pay to store them for a few hours while I went into Tokyo for dinner. When I got home I emailed QR with 'feedback' and they got in touch, most apologetically, and said in future instances to contact their airport manager in advance and they would ensure I could get the bags checked in.

AUH are not going to be at all helpful in early check-in for QR as there are no QR flights to or from there currently! LHR and CDG is at best 3.5 hrs before departure.
In DOH you can essentially 24 hr check-in in F or J. If you a cabin baggage only you could on-line check-in then go to the QF F lounge in SYD.
