I have been checking the Qantas London to Perth direct flight as seats are released. It seems economy reward seats are being loaded but no business class seats. Any information?

From what I've read you'd have a better chance getting them all the way from Melbourne through to London rather than just from Perth. Though that's no good if you're based in Perth.

QANTAS has no competition flying direct PER-LHR so there's not a strong need for them to release seats on this route. Whereas there's plenty of one stop competition for flying MEL-LHR. Also if they take a reward booking PER-LHR that's a seat that can't be filled by a revenue passenger the whole way MEL-PER-LHR.

If you don't have status the seats that are available may be snatched up by higher status travellers before you can select them.

What status do you have with QANTAS? How far out are the flights that you are looking at?

We are booking 355 days out, unfortunately we're lowly Bronze Status

As a Bronze member available seats will likely show up closer to 310 days out these days if I recall correctly, but the premium seats will likely all/pretty much all be gone by then.

MEL passengers have plenty of one stop choice MEL-DXB-LHR, MEL-SIN-LHR, MEL-PER-LHR, MEL-HKG-LHR. But PER-LHR direct is only on QF. Unless demand for PER based customers turns out to be very low I doubt they'll see the need to release much in the way of Business Class seats for solely the PER-LHR leg.

So if you want to use points to fly at the pointy end I think you'll need to fly indirect unless you have an eligible family member with status that can help you.

Unfortunately at bronze status I think you would be very lucky to pick up a J award seat on QF9/10.  I'm gold status and I don't see any either.   I usually find much better availability with CX when I look for J award seats to the US or Europe.   If you can get J with CX I would recommend grabbing those.  It will take a bit longer and be more points, but you get a break in a nice lounge and it will cost you a lot less in $.
