Qantas flies from T7 at JFK and uses the BA Galleries lounge (at last until it shortly closes for renovations).
As Qantas Club you only have access for one guest. Unfortunately (unlike Qantas) BA counts kids 2+ as guests, so you might have difficulties (the BA staff are known sticklers for rules, although YMMV)
I've done this sector before and the lounge usually isn't too busy. Assuming you don't get a total rules dictator on the door they'll usually let you in with a polite request

Flew out of JFK in January and used the BA lounge. The lounge attendant was nice enough to allow my wife and daughter in.

Unassuming BA lounge at T7. Comfortable and good showers to freshen up before the long trek to Syd
